Of views and gears: Kaybiang Tunnel

One of the perks of living south of Metro Manila is easy access to beautiful weekend destinations. Many beaches, mountains, nature parks, and lakes are within a day's worth of travel. With transportation options available, more and more of these destinations are starting to open up to tourists. Top: Kawayan Cove, private resort in Nasugbu.  Bottom: Taal lake as seen in Tagaytay. As someone who lived in Las piñas most of my life, I've had my fair share of travel to these destinations. Some I've been to many times over, and some I've yet to explore. This growth in tourism continues to inspire people to take up travel hobbies like hiking, biking, and motorcycle riding. Personally, I find motorcycle riding to be the cheapest, quickest, and easiest way to see the top destinations of south Luzon, and I take every opportunity to go ride when I have time. Of views and gears: Taal lake loop motorcycle ride

Last month, November 2023, I was able to go on a motorcycle ride two times. The first one is on the scenic Taal lake loop that covers the lakeshore towns of Batangas. Liked by bikers and motorcycle riders, this route allows for spectacular views of the Taal lake in different vantage points. It also features winding roads, and a chance to coast through the many town bay walks. The Taal lake loop route. Travel articles online lists that the loop can be completed in just 3-4 hours. Looking at the lake's circumference from Google maps, it is indeed smaller compared to Laguna lake which is a course that took me 9-10 hours to loop completely. Nevertheless, I expected that my present ride will take the same time as my ride in Laguna.  Riding with Yamaha Sniper MXI (2016) Now with everything set, I embarked on my day ride. Of views and gears: Laguna lake loop motorcycle ride

Laguna lake is a common weekend spot for people living south of Metro Manila. There are many ways to enjoy it: walking along its banks, dining in the many restaurants around it, camping, or even just seeing it from afar, atop the many mountain ranges in its vicinity.  Laguna lake as seen in Los Baños, Laguna This largest lake in the country covering the provinces of Taguig, Muntinlupa, Laguna, and Rizal, has also gained reputation as a motorcycle/bicycle ride loop. The 200 km ride, depending on where you start with, can be finished in a day, breaks included. On the road, one will pass by the rural and historic towns of Laguna, the mountains of Rizal, before going back to the busy streets of Taguig and Muntinlupa.  Photo from ciclo.cc I embarked on a motorcycle ride to try this loop out myself, along with a little side trip to Caliraya lake. My blogpost this week will be about this recent journey. Yamaha Sniper 150 MXI (2016) * * * I started my ride at about 9 am coming from Las Piñas.
